The Feast of The Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church
Jump to prayer, menu suggestions, additional idea
The Feast of Mary, Mother of the Church, is celebrated on the Monday after Pentecost, honoring Mary’s role as the mother of Jesus and, in another way, the mother of all Christians. On this day, we remember that Mary holds an honored place as Jesus’s mother. Just as our mothers are special to us, Jesus’s mother is extra special, and she actually becomes a mother to all of us. We know that, if we turn to her, she will pray for us and help us, comforting and strengthening us, and enabling us to do what God wants us to do.

Prayer for your Table
Heavenly Father,
In the Blessed Virgin Mary, you gave us the gift of a mother who holds both our joy and pain with empathy and love.
You gave our communion of believers a matriarch who understands every contour of this human life, and who—by your grace—never stumbled on the path to heaven.
Thank you for entrusting us to Mary’s care.
We ask that you keep us attentive to her wisdom, and quick to consult her deep understanding of Christ’s ways.
Through her intercession, help us better follow him
in whose name we pray.
Amen.
Menu Suggestions
The color that we associate with Mary is blue, and blueberries are the perfect way to incorporate this color into your meal. You can create a fruit salad that features blueberries or include blueberry muffins or a blueberry dessert. Easiest Blueberry Crumble is one very simple option.
Additional Idea
Set your table with blue flowers or white roses. (Roses are always a symbol for Mary.)
