Feast of Saints Peter and Paul
Jump to prayer
The Feast of Saints Peter and Paul is an ancient celebration, going back to the early days of Christianity. Peter and Paul were two of the most important apostles in the early Church. At one time, they disagreed on how the early Church should go forward, but the New Testament tells us that they met together and came to agreement. (Many consider this meeting, described in Acts 15, to be the first “council” of the Church.)

Each of these two saints spread the gospel of Jesus in powerful ways. In the end, both were martyred in Rome, and they are considered inseparable in their mission and legacy. (If you were to go to visit Rome, you would see many portraits with these two figures together.)
We know that followers of Christ sometimes disagree as we strive to understand what God wants us to do. Following the example of Peter and Paul means committing ourselves to work toward unity with each other so that we can go on the do the work of sharing God’s love with everyone.
