The Feast of the Holy Trinity celebrates a mystery reality that sits at the heart of everything: God’s triune nature. The Trinity is not something that can be fully understood, but the Church helps us understand how to speak about it in a trustworthy way: we believe in three “Persons” in one God. Christians began with their belief in God, their belief that Jesus was fully God, and also their belief that the Holy Spirit was fully God. Understanding how the three relate to each other led them to recognition of the eternal, triune nature of God.

Prayer for your Table

Almighty God,
The truth of who You are
is beyond our understanding.
The mystery of how You live and move and love
is bigger than us.
Thank you for your Fatherhood,
and the way you guide us through every joy and sadness.
Thank you for giving yourself to us through your Son, Jesus,
and making holy this human life.
Thank you for your Holy Spirit,
who brings us grace and the fire of faith.
We bless you and we praise you, O Holy Three-in-One.
May we always be drawn to the deep mystery of your divine self.
In the name of the Jesus,
who is, with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God forever.
Amen.

Menu Suggestion

In celebration of this feast, you could decorate your table with candles or flowers arranged in “3s” or serve cookies in the shape of triangles or trefoils. Or you may want to make a Tres Leches (“three milks”) cake, a delicious way to remember the threeness of the Trinity. (This cake is best if made a day ahead.)
